Kendrick started his career in signaling while attending the Illinois Institute of Technology obtaining a B. S. in Electrical Engineering. He worked as a co-operative education student with the Milwaukee Railroad, and then with the Chicago Transit Authority. He worked full-time for the CTA for 16 years, ending as Director, Power and Way Engineering. After leaving the CTA, Kendrick worked with various consulting firms (Railway Systems Design, Gibbs & Hill, and LTK Engineering Services) for ten years, all in signal engineering. He was with ALSTOM Signaling, Inc. (formerly General Railway Signal Co.) and then Safetran Systems, Inc. for 12 years. Kendrick returned to LTK Engineering Services, and is now retired.
